Fakers and Takers
I am going to do something that few politicians do these day. That is to tell the truth as I see it about the Democratic Party and liberalism in general.
It used to be said that the Democratic Party was the tax and spend party. I don’t think too many would disagree that this is a fair description of the policies of the Democratic Party at this point in time. I think that the condition of liberalism can be described more generally. I prefer to say that liberals are fakers and takers. A liberal is someone who takes something of value from a conservative and gives it to a third party in order to enhance his or her power or self esteem. That is the truth that liberals don’t want you to hear. Because liberals like to think of themselves as Robin Hood. I think they would acknowledge Robin Hood as their idol if they were honest.
The only problem is that Robin Hood was a thief. Of course, he only stole from the bad sheriff or the bad rich or the corrupt and hypocritical church. That is the only way liberals can operate. They must pretend in any type of political engagement that they are the good guys and the other guy is a bad guy. Because they don’t intend on compromising with the other guy, they aren’t interested in solving a common problem as anyone else might define that problem. They are only interested in taking from the other guy.
Liberal like to feign the ways of the righteous. They like to present themselves as very interested in equality. I say that isn’t true. The liberals that control the Democratic Party are using fakery to make people think they are interested in protecting equal rights. They are really only interested in enhancing the interest of their core groups.
Consider a few items. Barack Obama has already sought to cut back on the regular cost of living for civil service personnel based on the principle of shared sacrifice in these hard economic times. Yet he recently approved domestic partner benefits as a part of the federal health benefit package. This will of course have a cost to the Treasury but there is of course no discussion of shared sacrifice.
PBS, which to my understanding does receive some federal funding, recently announced that air time for “religious programming” would now be limited. Liberals of course take the position that their groups should be heard and of course represented in an “unbiased” manner. But what little air time conservative positions received is now being cut back. There is no talk of fairness in Democratic circles now.
Then there is the incendiary discussion of regulation of hate speech, which is legislation that ultimately will be used to justify all manner of persecution by “good” Democrats. I can guarantee you that when cases of hate speech and hateful actions direceted against conservative religious groups, “good Democrats’ will suddenly discover freedom of speech is supposed to apply to thinks that we might deplore for public consumption but which we really don’t care about.
That’s the Democratic Party for you. That’s liberalism for you. They have to pretend to be good so they can feel justified when they use the power of the state to take from conservatives.
